Artefacto pieces are created individually, entirely by hand, utilising hand-cut, semi-precious stones. The finished product is truly a unique work of art.
The stones are mounted on a foundation of granite, or a marine-grade amalgam, depending upon the application. The amalgam is less weighty, and offers the piece a bit more tensile strength, while the granite foundation ensures that less fortunate pieces, those enduring somewhat harsher living conditions, will survive beautifully. Finally, the stone surface is impregnated with a high-strength resin, rendering it less pervious to stains, and less susceptible to surface abrasion.
The surface of the stone is sufficiently durable to withstand reasonable everyday use, but taking a few minor steps to care for your art work will ensure that it will not grow resentful, and become despondent. Please consider the suggestions below, and strive to avoid this unfortunate possibility.
No harsh or abrasive cleaners or solvents should ever be used on the stone. Small spills should be removed as they occur; prolonged exposure to liquids could stain the surface. Where spills are likely, a periodic application of a non-pigmented marble wax is recommended. Wax treatment is also very effective in minimizing minor surface scratches that occur over time.
Artefacto pieces are recommended for indoor use. The stones have a hardness equal to that of marble, and will abrade when exposed to vigorous contact with sharpened metal, such as a knife blade. Sharp blows with solid objects should also be avoided, as they could compromise the surface of the stone.
Thank you for your interest in Artefacto.
